Ingredients Analysis

The first ingredient is chicken. Chicken is considered “the clean combination of flesh and skin derived from the parts or whole carcasses of chicken”.  1

Chicken is naturally rich in the 11 essential amino acids required by a cat to sustain life.

The second ingredient is chicken liver. This is an organ meat sourced from a named animal and thus considered a beneficial component.

The third and fourth ingredients are chicken broth and turkey brothBroths are of only modest nutritional value.  Yet because they add both flavor and moisture to a cat food, they are a common component in many wet products.

The fifth ingredient is turkeyTurkey is considered “the clean combination of flesh and skin derived from the parts or whole carcasses of turkey”.  2

Turkey is naturally rich in the 11 essential amino acids required by a cat to sustain life.

The sixth ingredient is tapioca, a gluten-free, starchy carbohydrate extract made from the root of the cassava plant.

The seventh ingredient is duckDuck is considered “the clean combination of flesh and skin derived from the parts or whole carcasses of duck”.  3

The eighth ingredient is dried egg whitesEggs are highly digestible and an excellent source of usable protein.

From here the list goes on to include a number of other items. But to be realistic, ingredients located this far down the list (other than nutritional supplements) are not likely to affect the overall rating of the product.

There is one notable exception:

Taurine, an essential amino acid for cats associated with the healthy function of heart muscle and eye sight, and is crucial for maintaining good health in cats. We view the presence of taurine in this recipe as a positive addition.

Has Go! Solutions cat food been recalled in the past?

Yes, Go! Solutions has one recall in the brand’s history, though it took place more than 20 years ago.

In 2003, Petcurean issued a voluntary recall for its GO! Natural Dog Chicken recipe (which has since been rebranded as Go! Solutions Skin & Coat Chicken recipe) as a result of some reports we received about dogs falling ill who had been eating the food. After extensive independent testing, and due to a lack of any health/safety issues being found with the food, the recall was subsequently reclassified by the FDA as voluntary market withdrawal.
