Ingredients Analysis
The first, second and third ingredients are all named meats – turkey, rabbit and lamb.
Turkey is considered “the clean combination of flesh and skin… derived from the parts or whole carcasses of turkey”.
Rabbit and lamb are considered “the clean flesh derived from slaughtered rabbit/lamb and associated with skeletal muscle or the muscle tissues of the tongue, diaphragm, heart, esophagus or other tissues accompanying the flesh. 1
They are all naturally rich in the 11 essential amino acids required by a cat to sustain life.
The fourth ingredient is lamb bone broth with gelatine. Although they add both flavor and moisture to a cat food, bone broths are a common component in many wet products. However, since broths consist almost entirely of water, the trace nutrients they contain account for only a fraction of the overall finished cat food.
The fifth ingredient is olive oil. Olive oil contains oleic acid, a healthy monounsaturated fat. It’s also rich in natural antioxidants and carotenoids.
The sixth ingredient is herring oil. Herring oil is naturally rich in the prized EPA and DHA type of omega-3 fatty acids. These two high quality fats boast the highest bio-availability to cats and humans.
Depending on its level of freshness and purity, herring oil should be considered a commendable addition.
